Today’s recent college graduates face an incredibly challenging job market. Millions of college students nationwide, thousands in Pennsylvania alone, will graduate with their four year degree this year and compete against each other for entry-level positions. To further complicate things, because the economy is not recovering quite as quickly as expected, entry level positions that used to go to recent college grads are now being sought after by job seekers with three, five, or seven years of work experience. For this reason, the only way to really compete in the job market is to have legitimate work experience in addition to and before earning your degree. Right now, while you’re still in college, get a job or internship in Pennsylvania in order to gain experience.
There are things to consider before accepting a job position while in college. Will the internship be a good cultural fit for you? Has the internship helped advance other college student’s careers? Will you gain practical work experience from this internship that you can apply to any job in the future? Do career research before accepting a position and if the answer to any of these questions is no, keep searching. Don’t waste your summer working for a company that will not propel your career.
The College Works Painting internship allows college students to run their own house painting business over the summer. This is an intensive internship that will teach you every aspect of running a business. If you make it through our rigorous interview process and then our extensive training program you will get the opportunity to interview, hire, and manage your own crew of house painters; interact with clients; market, sell, and book work to last the entire summer; and manage the profitability of your business. Doing this you will learn management and leadership skills, responsibility, and integrity. You will gain the broad based transferable skills needed to successfully compete in the job market after college.
